Over 25 broadcasters to provide broadest free-to-air reach of top English football league

Zug, Switzerland – The Premier League, one of the world’s top football leagues, will enjoy its broadest ever coverage on free-to-air television in sub-Saharan Africa for the 2020/21 season after Infront, a Wanda Sports Group company, secured a 30 percent increase in broadcasters

Over 25 broadcasters across more than 20 territories will show one match a week on free-to-air television, expanding the footprint of the Premier League on the continent even further. These are highlighted by new agreements in several territories including Benin, Botswana, Cameroon and Zambia.

Jean-François Jeanne, Managing Director Infront France said: “This the second season we have worked alongside the Premier League in sub-Saharan Africa and this growth is a testament to the knowledge and experience our dedicated African division has when it comes to media rights on the continent. The league is one of the best in the world and we are delighted to see loyalty from our long-term partners as well as a recognition from new broadcasters who are keen to deliver world class action to their viewers.”

Paul Molnar, Premier League’s Director of Broadcasting added: “Sub-Saharan Africa has produced many of the Premier League’s top stars, and we are delighted that the passionate fan base in the region will continue to have greater access to our matches. Infront’s experience in finding the most well-established and reliable broadcast partners has helped deliver our product to a wider audience.”

All broadcasts of the weekly match include English, French or Portuguese commentary as well as dedicated services in local languages such as Swahili. There are also weekly preview, magazine and highlights programmes made available

The 2020/21 EPL season began on 12 September and will run until 23 May 2021. It continues this weekend with the key fixture of Chelsea versus Crystal Palace
