Nigerian singer-songwriter and Global Cultural Ambassador Jemiriye delivered a memorable cultural showcase at the Destination Africa celebration during the FIFA World Cup Fan Zone festivities in Los Angeles, earning praise from Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass after a performance that celebrated Africa’s rich heritage.
Jemiriye was entrusted with leading the event’s grand ceremonial welcome for Mayor Bass as representatives from more than 24 African nations gathered to showcase the continent’s diversity, culture and unity on one of the world’s biggest sporting stages.
The performance became one of the highlights of the event, with Mayor Bass expressing her admiration after receiving the traditional African welcome.
“Thank you so much for bringing me back to Africa as I walked in. That African welcome was absolutely wonderful,” the mayor said.
She added that the performance reminded her of her visits to the African Union, describing the cultural presentation and ensemble as deeply nostalgic and inspiring.
The moment underscored Mayor Bass’ long-standing commitment to strengthening ties between Los Angeles and African nations while highlighting the role of culture in fostering international connections.
