Lazio were made to work hard by Cagliari, who stunned the hosts by taking the lead as early as the 21st minute. But the Biancocelesti reacted quickly. In the 36th minute, Gustav Isaksen levelled the score, putting his side back in a contest that had become more closely fought.
After the break, the Romans gradually took control. Their dominance was finally rewarded in the 83rd minute by Andrea Pinamonti, who scored the winner. It was a precious success that allows Lazio to turn a favourable opportunity into a real advantage on the table.
Inter under pressure as title race reopens
The win carries extra weight after Inter Milan’s 3-1 defeat to AC Milan in the derby. The two sides had shared top spot before this round of fixtures. Lazio now have 28 points, three clear of the Nerazzurri, who are second on 25.
Behind them, the competition remains particularly tight. AS Roma are third on 24 points after their emphatic 5-2 win in Udine, while Como complete the top four on 23 points after beating Venice 1-0.
With nine wins and one draw, Lazio have put together a remarkable record. The Rome club had never reached such a points total after ten matchdays. It is a start that feeds the ambitions of the Biancocelesti, whose last Italian title dates back to 2000.
Still no fervour at the Olympic Stadium
Despite the results on the pitch, the atmosphere around the club remains marked by tension between supporters and the board. As in previous home games, the stands at the Olympic Stadium were largely deserted by the ultras and tifosi, who are in open conflict with president and owner Claudio Lotito, whom they accuse in particular of underinvesting in recruitment.
Lazio are therefore out in front in the league, but this success on the pitch is not yet enough to reconcile every part of the club.
