Queen of Reggae Marcia Griffiths is among the artistes set to perform at the Seville Emancipation Jubilee on July 31.

The Emancipation Jubilee Vigil, one of Jamaica’s cultural events, will be held from Friday, July 31, into Saturday, August 1, at Seville Heritage Park in St Ann, celebrating freedom and <a href="https://abs<a href="https://absafricatv.com/what-africa-builds-here-the-world-will-use-everywhere/” title=”What Africa Builds Here, the World Will Use Everywhere”>africatv.com/locked-out-why-africa-loses-its-brightest-before-they-leave/” title=”Locked out: Why Africa loses its brightest before they leave”>African heritage.

The 2026 staging aims to highlight the strength and determination of Jamaicans as the country continues its recovery from Hurricane Melissa’s impact last year.

According to the chairman of the Jamaica National Heritage Trust (JNHT), Orville Hill, this year’s Emancipation Jubilee is expected to surpass last year’s staging, which welcomed approximately 8,000 patrons.

“This year’s celebration promises an even richer and more immersive experience. Our patrons can look forward to a stellar line-up of top local cultural artistes and bands, delivering powerful performances rooted in African retention, resistance, and cultural pride.”

He noted that the line-up includes reggae artiste Warrior King, Queen of Reggae Marcia Griffiths, gospel artistes Petra Kaye, Sista Patt and Jai Kingston, as well as cultural groups such as the Charles Town Maroons, Hertford Cultural Group and Manchioneal Culture Group, among others.

One of this year’s highlights will be the re-enactment of the Reading of the Emancipation Proclamation at midnight, followed by a floral tribute to African ancestors.

Beyond the artisan village showcasing authentic Jamaican art, craft, fashion and heritage products, guests can enjoy traditional Jamaican cuisine throughout the celebration at the food court.

The Exhibitors Village will display cultural artefacts, publications and information on Jamaica’s heritage and culture, alongside exhibits from the JNHT’s partners.

In keeping with long-standing Emancipation traditions, free chocolate tea will be served throughout the night in enamel mugs, offering warmth, nourishment and a symbolic connection to ancestral practices.

Patrons are encouraged to walk with their enamel mugs or purchase on location.

Emancipation Jubilee 2026 is a special opportunity for all Jamaicans to gather, reflect, and rejoice in the strength of a people who, time and again, rise from adversity with pride, purpose, and unity. Admission is free to the public; however, patrons are required to present an entry ticket. Gates open at 6 p.m., and showtime is at 8 p.m.
