The Information and Communication Technologies Authority (ICTA)  has officially launched KaliteNet, a national platform designed to measure and monitor the quality of Internet services across the Republic of Mauritius, including Mauritius, Rodrigues, and Agaléga.

The launch took place on May 11, 2026, during a workshop at the Hennessy Park Hotel in Ebène, attended by the Minister of Information Technology, Communication and Innovation, Avinash Ramtohul.

KaliteNet is available as both a mobile application and a web platform, allowing users to voluntarily test their internet connection and send anonymised data to ICTA. The platform can be accessed via kalitenet.icta.mu and is also downloadable from the Apple App Store, Google Play Store, and Huawei AppGallery.

The system measures key internet performance indicators including download and upload speeds, latency, browsing quality, streaming performance, signal strength, responsiveness, and network coverage. The data collected will help ICTA assess service quality and user experience across different regions and usage conditions in Mauritius.

Participation in KaliteNet is free, voluntary, and anonymous, with ICTA encouraging widespread public participation to ensure more accurate and representative national internet performance data.

The platform was developed for ICTA by nPerf, an international company specializing in internet performance measurement technologies, and is part of broader efforts to strengthen transparency and data-driven regulation in the ICT sector.

ICTA Chairperson Tassarajen Pillay Chedumbrum said the initiative marks an important shift toward user-driven network monitoring, where consumers actively contribute to evaluating telecom service performance.

ICTA Officer-in-Charge J. Louis noted that the initiative is expected to empower consumers, improve accountability among service providers, and support evidence-based decision-making for continuous improvement in the telecommunications sector.

The launch workshop brought together stakeholders from the ICT industry, regulators, telecom operators, and international experts to discuss quality of service measurement, user experience, and digital transparency.
