The Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccan Expatriates, Nasser Bourita, held an official meeting in Rabat with Crispin Mbadu Phanzu, Minister Delegate of the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) in charge of the Francophonie

During the reception, the Congolese emissary delivered a strategic message addressed to Mohammed VI from the President of the DRC, Félix-Antoine Tshisekedi Tshilombo

At the conclusion of the meeting, Mbadu Phanzu highlighted to the media the excellent rapport and the historical path that defines cooperation between both nations. Furthermore, he explained that the central purpose of his official trip to Morocco is to promote his country’s project to take over the General Secretariat of the International Organisation of La Francophonie (OIF)

The Congolese delegation included Juliana Amato Lumumba, the official candidate of the DRC to lead the multilateral body. Lumumba praised the strength of the existing bonds of friendship, recalling an emotional historical connection: her father, the historic leader Patrice Émery Lumumba, was decorated in his time by the late monarch Mohammed V

Common vision on sovereignty and unity

The aspirant to the general secretariat underlined the ideological alignment between Rabat and Kinshasa on fundamental principles such as sovereignty, inclusion, unity, and African solidarity

In this regard, the plan backed by the Government of Morocco and the ministry of foreign affairs advocated for transforming the institution towards a model of “Francophonie of the peoples, with the peoples and for the peoples”, which prioritizes social development and shared cultural identity, reinforcing the international role of African cultural diplomacy
