Advocate Terry Motau has expressed confidence in the team remaining at the Madlanga judicial inquiry, insisting they will continue probing alleged corruption within the police service.

The commission, which began its first sitting in Pretoria two weeks ago, saw Motau outline a timeline of events that would frame the inquiry. Speaking to 702’s Breakfast with Bongani Bingwa on Thursday, he stressed the importance of maintaining the integrity of the investigations.

Clarifying His Decision to Leave the Commission

Motau explained that his decision to step aside was influenced by administrative issues, among other concerns, but he does not believe it undermines the commission’s work.

“I have confidence in those that are left in the commission. I do not want to create an impression that I’m casting any aspersions on the commission; that’s not what I want.

“My purpose is to explain things that haven’t come out yet, for example, the timing of when I decided to leave the commission, which, up to this stage, it is assumed that it was a decision that was taken, as a sudden decision during the course of evidence being given, and it’s not correct,” Motau said.

Despite stepping aside, Motau said he believes the commission will still achieve the desired results in uncovering alleged corruption. He highlighted that the inquiry’s work remains critical and that the remaining members are capable of carrying the investigation forward.
