The Investigating Directorate Against Corruption’s (IDAC) new oversight judge said on Sunday that his office had received a number of high-profile complaints against members of the anti-corruption unit.

Retired Judge Takalani Raulinga made the comments during a media briefing in Pretoria, where he outlined his office’s role in restoring public confidence in the embattled unit.

He said he was concerned about the damage to IDAC’s reputation amid growing scrutiny of its leadership.

The briefing comes as IDAC faces intensifying scrutiny following its public dispute with the South African Police Service (SAPS) over the arrest of Crime Intelligence head, Dumisani Khumalo.

The case is under review after questions were raised at the Madlanga Commission about evidence supporting the charges against Khumalo.

Brigadier Dineo Mokwele, who is central to the matter, has also called on the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) to review the case against her.

Mokwele, Khumalo and other senior Crime Intelligence officers are facing fraud and corruption charges relating to her allegedly irregular appointment.

Raulinga said the controversies had affected IDAC’s credibility.
