The shade is going to come in handy, right, Lindsay, in the next couple of days? Yeah, I would think, especially when they’re out there in the heat. Yeah, I know we’re heating up again today, Michelle. Yeah, back to the 90s. It was *** short-lived cool down, but beautiful to be out and hopefully you’ll have *** chance to say hi to Audrey and then Dave Aiken will be out at Kingswell at the Lowe’s Foods. So really good weather overall. We won’t have to worry about storms today. We’re drying out. We have temperatures right now at 87 degrees in Winston. Salem, we’re at 85 in Greensboro. We’ve got you at 88 in Mount Airy and looking at those temperatures, they still feel *** couple of degrees warmer at this hour. Our dew points are sitting in the 60s and the low 70s. This is *** very muggy weather that we talk about in the summer that we come to expect, right, in North Carolina. Well, the heat risk does come up when we combine those temperatures that they climb higher than the upper 80s into the low 90s, so *** moderate risk for heat related illnesses today. But *** reminder too, you’ve got 80s out there and that can cause some concerns if you’re out too long or overdoing it and it really is dependent on the person. We want to make sure you’re keeping cool, taking those heat breaks, and making sure you’re staying hydrated. That’s *** big concern for all of us. So we’ve got the heat related illness risk level increasing Thursday as well as Friday for outdoor workers especially. And folks who may have to walk to work or uh ride their bikes to work, you know, these are the things you want to think about making sure you have ways to keep cool and take those extra cool down breaks. Saturday we start to see that drop off just *** little bit, but still in that major heat related risk for illnesses zone. All right, Piedmont Tri, your 12 hour forecast. We got you from 91 degrees this afternoon to 93. Um, between 3 and 4 o’clock, so that’s our high expected this afternoon with feels like temperatures at 96 and we feel like those low 90s all the way through the early evening until well after the sun sets. So it takes *** while to cool off too. 92 degrees overnight temperatures are going to be warm. We’ve got upper 60s likely out there, so we don’t have big temp uh chances to really cool off even overnight. And that means we start off on *** warm note. 84 degrees for highs today to near 85 in the mountains, so areas of Sparta, Ennis, and Galax. We’ve got temperatures there at about 87 for feels like temperatures, and that’s pretty muggy too. We have high humidity everywhere around the Southeast now. We’re looking at showers and thunderstorms here down to our south and west and bigger concerns over Texas, but also watching for *** developing low in the Gulf over the next couple of days. This could drift to the north and east. So as we track the tropics, there is some potential within the next 7 days. That this system, this area of low pressure, could become more tropical in nature. And so we’ll be watching it as it forms and then moves eventually into the Atlantic, we believe over the next several days. That could kick in rain for us by early next week if it does come to fruition. Now showers and thunderstorms are intense. We’ve got the heavy rain, the devastating flooding developing right now over parts of San Antonio and central Texas. So we’re watching some 14 inches just north of the Uvalde area through San Antonio, Carville, and you can see here heading out to. Austin, those numbers are coming up just within the last 48 hours we’ve had *** tremendous amount of rain and that stretches all the way east too into East Texas. We also talk about the air quality concerns thanks to some wildfire smoke. *** lot of that may stay elevated, but some of the near surface smoke, you may even smell some smoke out there over the next couple of days. We’ll keep you posted on that, but hot 90s, dry for now. Storm chance returns late Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. Better chances and stormy and *** lot hotter. We’ll have much more for you coming up.

Hurricane meteorologists are watching a tropical wave in the eastern Atlantic off the coast of Western Africa
Hurricane meteorologists are watching a newly formed tropical wave south of the Cabo Verde islands.
There is a new tropical wave that the National Hurricane Center (NHC) meteorologists are monitoring. In addition to a developing low in the Gulf, the newest tropical wave in the far eastern Atlantic has become better organized just off the coast of Senegal and Guinea-Bissau. The tropical wave, a disorganized area of rain and thunderstorms, is moving west-northwestward over the Atlantic and to the south of the Republic of Cabo Verde, a nation of ten islands off the western coast of the African continent.
Tropical development possible in the eastern Atlantic
Right now, there is a low chance that the system will continue organizing within the next two to seven days. By this weekend, the wave is expected to enter a more unfavorable area for potential development.
