Nigerian actors Lateef Adedimeji and Linda Ejiofor-Suleiman headline Black Market, a new Nollywood feature from Rixel Studios, as the producers set their sights on breaking the Guinness World Record for the largest film screening at a single venue

The studio officially unveiled the project this week, describing Black Market as its second feature film following the release of Red Circle in 2025

Written by Abdul Tijani-Ahmed and Fatimah Binta Gimsay, the film is scheduled for release on September 26, 2026, at Tafawa Balewa Square, Lagos.

In what is expected to be one of the biggest cinema events in africatv.com/weekend-happenings-get-a-taste-of-west-africa-at-the-fairgrounds/” title=”WEEKEND HAPPENINGS: Get a taste of West Africa at the fairgrounds”>Africa, the producers, in collaboration with Filmone Studios and Switch Visuals Production, plan to host 50,000 people at the premiere in an official attempt to break the current Guinness World Record of 43,000 people watching a film at a single location

Speaking on the project, the team lead at Rixel Studios, Nora Awolowo, said the production reflects the company’s commitment to innovation and creative storytelling

“We are excited to go on this journey as a team and we have taken a lot of learnings from our previous film. As young filmmakers, one of our aims is to continue to creatively look for ways to innovate,” she said

Also commenting, Chief Content Officer of Filmone Studios, Ladun Awobokun, described the planned record attempt as an opportunity to showcase Nigeria’s creative industry on the global stage

“We are incredibly excited. This is more than a film project. It’s an opportunity to create history and showcase Nigerian creativity and Nollywood on a global stage,” Awobokun said

Chief Executive Officer of Switch Visuals Production, Damilola Osikoya, said the initiative demonstrates the power of collaboration and bold thinking among young creatives

“There is nothing more inspiring to me than seeing young people challenge conventions and push the boundaries of innovation. This project is especially close to my heart because it represents what is possible when bold ideas meet determination and collaboration,” Osikoya said

Directed by Fatimah Binta Gimsay and shot in Abeokuta, Ogun State, Black Market features an ensemble cast led by Lateef Adedimeji and Linda Ejiofor-Suleiman

Other cast members include Itele D Icon, Scarlet Gomez, Omowunmi Dada, Teniola Aladese, Susan Pwajok, Uzor Arukwe, Folagade Banks, Tomiwa Tegbe, Andrew Yaw Bunting, Shamz Garuba and Adeoluwa Akintoba

Expressing confidence in the project, director Fatimah Binta Gimsay said the production team was intentional about delivering an entertaining film

“From day one, we were determined to make a fun film, and we made it with the best people. This was a great challenge for everyone and we can’t wait to share it with the world,” she said

If successful, the planned screening would set a new Guinness World Record while further projecting Nollywood’s growing influence on the international stage
