The Patriotic Alliance (PA) has officially announced its deputy president, Kenny Kunene, as the party’s mayoral candidate for Johannesburg despite an ongoing probe into the politician’s alleged link with Katiso “KT” Molefe.
The announcement was made despite Kunene’s current suspension, pending an investigation into his alleged ties with suspected crime figure Molefe.

Police previously found Kunene at Molefe’s Sandton home during the arrest of Molefe in connection with the murder of DJ Sumbody (Oupa Sefoka).

During a Facebook Live session on Sunday night, PA leader Gayton McKenzie confirmed that the party’s internal investigation into Kunene was nearing completion.
“The investigation of the DP will probably be done, Eugene will tell us tomorrow when the investigation will be done. He (Kunene) has done very good work in the City of Joburg, and the DP will be our mayoral candidate for Joburg.
“We insist on that as he was a councillor. We will discuss with him that position, but the DP, we want his case to finish,” McKenzie said.
Liam Jacobs Moves From Joburg to Cape Town
In another shake-up, the PA revealed that Liam Jacobs will resign from his Johannesburg councillor role and instead stand as the party’s mayoral candidate for Cape Town.
Jacobs’ shift comes just a month after being sworn in as a councillor in Johannesburg. He replaces Raatiqah Tagodien, who has now been promoted to the PA’s national executive committee.

With the change, Jacobs will no longer contest for the City of Tshwane mayoral seat.
New Role for Jacobs as Youth Leader
McKenzie also announced that Jacobs will take on an additional responsibility as the PA’s national youth leader.
“We are removing Liam Jacobs out of council because I think they are intimidated, and they want him to be an honorary councillor — we know there are some DA guys that are intimidated by him. We not going to let such talent sit there while we can use it elsewhere,” McKenzie said.
