Packaging is playing an increasingly important role across the value chain. Beyond its traditional protective function, packaging has become a key consideration in areas such as sustainability, supply chain efficiency, product traceability and brand differentiation. As market demands evolve, manufacturers, processors and brand owners are increasingly adopting new materials, technologies and production methods to remain competitive

Several of these developments are expected to feature prominently at the Propak Cape exhibition later this year. Sustainability remains a significant focus area, with growing demand for recyclable, reusable and fibre-based packaging solutions that support circular economy objectives. At the same time, businesses continue to seek ways to improve operational efficiency, reduce material consumption and optimise logistics through packaging innovation

Technology is also reshaping the sector. Advances in automation, digital printing, smart packaging and product traceability are creating new opportunities for manufacturers and brand owners alike. Customisation is becoming increasingly important as businesses seek packaging solutions tailored to specific products, distribution requirements and customer expectations. Regulatory compliance, food safety and product integrity are also influencing packaging design and production decisions across a range of industries.

These trends are expected to be reflected across the more than 200 exhibitors participating in Propak Cape 2026. The exhibition will showcase products, technologies and services spanning packaging, plastics, processing, printing, labelling and production, providing a broad overview of current developments within the sector

Live equipment demonstrations will form part of the exhibition, offering visitors the opportunity to observe technologies in operation and gain insight into their practical applications. The event will also provide a platform for engagement between suppliers, technology providers, manufacturers and industry stakeholders

“Taking place once every three years, Propak Cape has become an established meeting place for the packaging, plastics, printing and processing sectors,” explains Mark Anderson, Portfolio Director at Montgomery Group Africa, organisers of the show. “The event is particularly relevant to the Western Cape, which accounts for more than 50% of South Africa’s agricultural exports and generates significant demand for packaging, processing and related technologies.”

The exhibition will be complemented by a programme of industry seminars hosted by the Institute of Packaging SA (IPSA), while Printing SA’s one-day conference will deliver additional insights from industry experts. The Flexographic Technical Association of South Africa (FTASA) will also host its prestigious awards evening alongside the exhibition

Propak Cape will take place at the Cape Town International Conference Centre (CTICC) from 27-29 October 2026 incorporating Pro-Plas Expo, Print Expo, Pro-Label Expo, FoodPro Expo, and the Wine & Olive Oil Production Expo. The event is supported by IPSA, Packaging SA, Plastics SA, Printing SA and FTASA
