The Patriotic Alliance (PA) has issued a seven-day ultimatum to the African National Congress (ANC), demanding the reinstatement of its deputy president, Kenny Kunene, to the City of Johannesburg’s mayoral committee.
This comes after Kunene was cleared of any wrongdoing linked to his presence at the Sandton home of businessman Katiso “KT” Molefe in July, when police arrived to arrest Molefe.

Independent Probe Clears Kenny Kunene of Wrongdoing
Kunene was removed from the mayoral committee by PA leader Gayton McKenzie following the incident. McKenzie commissioned an independent investigation by a law firm, which ultimately found that Kunene had not acted improperly.
With the investigation now concluded, Kunene is pushing for his immediate reinstatement by Johannesburg Mayor Dada Morero.

Addressing the matter, Kunene made it clear that the PA expects swift action from the ANC.
“Now I am going back in, now that I have been cleared, we are saying that if I’m not appointed within seven days, all those who are in coalitions with the ANC, whether it’s provincial, whether it’s local whether it’s national, including our president, the minister of sports, arts and culture, we will then walk away out of the GNU, out of the GLU and out of the GPU,” Kunene warned.
The ultimatum raises concerns about the stability of coalition governments if the ANC fails to act within the given timeframe.
