Prudence Sekgodiso and her main 800m and 1,500 track competitor Charne Swart-Du Plessis both won World Athletics Championships Tokyo 25 qualification among the many highlights on Day 3 of the ASA Senior Track and Field Championships, at the NWU McArthur Athletics Stadium in Potchefstroom on Saturday, 26 April, 2025.

Sekgodiso was pushed hard by Charne Swart-Du Plessis in both the women’s 800m and 1,500m finals, but the World Indoor 800m champion emerged triumphant in both races, securing double gold racing in KZNA colours.

Sekgodiso won the 800m contest in 1:58.80, holding off a challenge from AGN’s Swart-Du Plessis, who clocked 1:58.98. Later in the day, they both returned to the track in the 1,500m final, with Sekgodiso winning again in 4:11.34, and Swart-Du Plessis taking second place in 4:12.30.

“It’s a motivation for me going forward, having Charne pushing me and I’m glad I’m going to see her on the European circuit. and I know she’s going to be amazing.”
