President Cyril Ramaphosa, alongside Gauteng Premier Panyaza Lesufi and MEC for Sports Lebogang Maile, started the Mandela Day Walk and Run 2026 at the DP World Wanderers Stadium in Johannesburg.
Thousands of South Africans took part in the annual 5-kilometre walk on Sunday morning to honour Nelson Mandela <a href="https://absafricatv.com/tate-brothers-face-new-charges-amidst-international-legal-challenges-law/” title=”Tate Brothers Face New Charges Amidst International Legal Challenges | Law”>International Day.
Addressing participants, Ramaphosa said the event celebrated Madiba’s legacy, values and integrity.
“Yesterday was Madiba’s birthday. His birthday was being celebrated globally. I saw pictures in London, I saw pictures in New York, I saw pictures in Addis Ababa, I saw pictures in many other places…in the Scandina doing it in honor of Nelson Mandela and in many ways let’s see ourselves walking in the footsteps of Nelson Mandela.”
