Indian FAST platform RunnTV has partnered with eMedia Investments to launch Openview Stream, a free, ad-supported streaming television platform for African audiences.
The platform is available in Kenya, Ghana, Rwanda, Zambia, Botswana, Namibia and Mauritius in its first phase. It is expected to expand to additional African markets over the coming months.
Developed as part of eMedia Investments’ portfolio, Openview Stream combines the company’s regional content and media brands with RunnTV’s streaming technology. The platform offers a mix of African and international television channels without a subscription.
Openview Stream is accessible on mobile devices and connected TVs. It will also provide regional broadcasters and content owners with digital distribution and advertising opportunities beyond traditional television.
The launch comes as smart TV adoption, internet connectivity and digital video consumption continue to grow across African markets. The platform will use an advertising-supported model to provide free access to its content.
Manish Sinha, founder and CEO, RunnTV, said, “Africa is one of the most exciting growth markets for the future of television, and Openview Stream has been built with that opportunity in mind. Our focus is to support a locally relevant, high-quality FAST experience that gives viewers access to compelling channels while helping African broadcasters and content owners extend their reach across mobile and Connected TV. eMedia Investments brings deep audience insight, strong media brands and local market expertise, making them the ideal partner as we help scale Openview Stream across the continent.”
Khalik Sheriff, group CEO, eMedia Investments, added, “The television industry across Africa is entering a new era as audiences increasingly embrace connected and streaming experiences. Openview Stream is an important step in that evolution, combining African storytelling, trusted entertainment and subscription-free access in one digital destination. Through our partnership with RunnTV, we are pairing eMedia Investments’ local market expertise with proven FAST technology to create new opportunities for broadcasters, creators and advertisers while giving viewers across the continent access to quality television.”
The companies plan to expand Openview Stream’s channel line-up, content partnerships and presence across additional African markets over the coming quarters.
