Mumbai, August 2026: Sopa Lodges proudly marks 40 years of safari excellence, celebrating a remarkable journey of hospitality, conservation and memorable experiences across the diverse landscapes of East Africa.
The Sopa story began with an ambitious vision in the early 1980s and became reality on 8 August 1986, when Masai Mara Sopa Lodge opened its doors with just 36 guest rooms, inviting travellers to experience the extraordinary beauty of the Maasai Mara.
What began as a single safari lodge has since grown into a distinguished collection of six properties across Kenya and Tanzania, including Masai Mara Sopa Lodge, Amboseli Sopa Lodge, Lake Naivasha Sopa Resort, Lake Nakuru Sopa Lodge, Samburu Sopa Lodge and Tarangire Sopa Lodge. While Ngorongoro Sopa Lodge and Serengeti Sopa Lodge were rebranded to Explorer by Elewana Collection, they remain an important part of the Sopa legacy.
Across four decades, the philosophy of “One Sopa, One Standard, One People” has remained at the heart of the brand, reflecting a shared commitment to authentic hospitality, cultural appreciation, environmental conservation and exceptional guest experiences.
