Spain vs Argentina Highlight: Ferran Torres’ Goal Leads Spain to 2026 FIFA World Cup Victory After 16 Years, Lionel Messi’s Argentina Defeated

Spain defeated Argentina to claim the 2026 FIFA World Cup title, ending a 16-year wait.

Spain has been crowned the 2026 World Cup winner, having triumphed over defending champions Argentina.

The Spanish team overcame Lionel Messi’s Argentina to secure the trophy for the second time in their history.

A goal from Ferran Torres in extra time proved decisive, helping the Spanish side clinch the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Ferran Torres broke the deadlock during extra time, putting Spain ahead in the 2016th minute of the World Cup final.

A brilliant shot by Ferran from the central area provided Spain with the opportunity for a World Cup victory.

Spain forced defending champions Argentina into extra time in the 2026 FIFA World Cup final.

Argentina, winners of the 2022 World Cup, confronted European champions Spain before a crowd of 82,500 spectators at the New York New Jersey Stadium.

Lionel Messi’s team struggled to score against Spain, whose robust defense proved impenetrable for the Argentinians.

Enzo Fernandez’s red card reduced Argentina to ten players, while Spain launched attacks from all directions.

Enzo received the red card during the four minutes of added time, following a second yellow card issued by the referee for a foul against Spain’s Pau Cubarsi, which sent him airborne.

Substitute Nico Williams demonstrated to Argentina that anything was possible, while Mikel Merino also intensified the pressure.

Spain registered numerous shots on target, testing Argentina’s goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez repeatedly.

In the 94th minute of extra time, Nico Williams had another scoring opportunity when he headed the ball towards the net, but Martinez made a crucial save, preventing Argentina from conceding.

After an extended period on the pitch, the Spanish side ultimately sealed the match with Ferran’s goal.

Following the referee’s final whistle, there were tears of joy on one side and tears of disappointment on the other.

Lionel Messi sat on the pitch, observing the scenes unfolding around him.

This marked Lionel Messi’s final World Cup appearance for Argentina.

Spain added World Cup glory to their European triumph, as celebrations erupted across the pitch.

Spain dominated possession, created numerous chances, and controlled all aspects of the game, marking a significant victory for La Roja.

The Qatar 2022 World Cup was not Argentina’s only victory, as they had also won in 1978 and 1986 – but they were defeated in 2026.

Spain had previously won the World Cup in 2010, meaning it had been 16 years since their last victory.

However, they have now made history by winning the World Cup for a second time.

Spain vs Argentina: A Long History

This marked only the second occasion that Spain and Argentina have faced each other in a World Cup match.

Their previous encounter was in 1966 during the group stages, where Argentina defeated Spain 2-1.

To date, they have played 16 matches, with both Argentina and Spain securing six wins each and drawing twice.

    Other friendly matches include:

    Spain 6-1 Argentina (March 2018)

    Spain 1-4 Argentina (September 2010)

    Spain 2-1 Argentina (November 2009)

    Spain 2-1 Argentina (October 11, 2006)

    Spain 0-2 Argentina (November 1999)

Now, Spain has extended their winning record by defeating Argentina in the 2026 World Cup.
