    In a significant and groundbreaking legal update, the Allahabad High Court has ruled that granting 25% of the husband’s gross salary as maintenance to the wife is only a “broad guideline” and not a mandatory rule. The High Court clarified that trial courts must look at the specific facts and financial realities of each case rather than blindly applying the 25% limit.

    This major decision came during a combined hearing of two petitions from Kanpur Dehat. While the court rejected the husband’s plea to stop maintenance altogether—stating that a divorced wife who hasn’t remarried and has no incomeind judgment and modified the monthly maintenance from ₹12,000 to ₹20,000 based on merits.
