The Supreme Court has been celebrating America 250 for more than a year with special content, events, and displays.

Marking America’s 250th anniversary, the Supreme Court of Ohio has filled the past year with digital content, events, and displays to spark curiosity, enhance civic literacy, and honor key moments in the United States and Ohio.

With America’s semiquincentennial on July 4, 2026 came the conclusion of one of those initiatives, the online campaign “The Story of America: This Day in History.” Beginning July 5 of 2025, every weekday, weekend, and holiday for the year leading up to the nation’s semiquincentennial, Supreme Court staff selected three facts a day from an initial list of more than 3,000 facts about American, Ohio, and legal history to spotlight the most compelling each day:

    • A total of 1,045 facts were shared on Facebook and X throughout the year.
    • The posts received 207,515 views and 5,435 reactions across the two platforms.

Facts ranged from the first Continental Congress meeting on Sept. 5, 1774, to the approval of Perry County’s creation on Dec. 26, 1817, and the decertification of Route 66 on June 27, 1985. These facts were simultaneously published on the Court’s internal Center

The Court’s homepage, which also featured facts about American history and culture, garnered almost 1 million views from July 4, 2025, to July 4, 2026. The Court also dedicated a page on its official site to America 250, which received more than 4,000 views and promoted aspects of Ohio history and culture by organizing events and articles into monthly themes, aligned with themes set by the America 250-Ohio Commission.

These monthly themes are being highlighted throughout 2026 with special exhibits at the Thomas J. Moyer Ohio Judicial Center, encouraging the public to visit the Court. So far, exhibits have focused on Ohio’s legal development, including foundational documents, Ohioan Sam Sheppard’s criminal case, and a history of Ohio’s state symbols.

In conjunction with “This Day in History,” the Supreme Court published 19 articles on Court News Ohio related to Ohio legal history. Receiving nearly 10,000 views, these articles covered topics from Ohio’s first chief judge to the Magna Carta’s influence on the legal system and the history of firework laws in Ohio.

Signature events like the dedication of a new exhibit to honor “Women in Law” and the unveiling of a bronze bas-relief portrait recognizing the Honorable John A. Boehner are celebrated throughout Court’s campaign.

While America’s semiquincentennial has passed, the Court continues its celebration through the end of 2026 with more events and initiatives. Learn more at supremecourt.ohio.gov/AM250.
