Tata Motors has an international portfolio, including markets like South Africa. The Indian carmaker is also set to add the Nexon to its regional portfolio. While it bears the Nexon nameplate in India, it will be called Osprey in South Africa.
Tata Motors’ South Africa portfolio consists of the Tiago, Punch (pre-facelift), Curvv, and the Harrier. The Osprey will join this portfolio in the third quarter of the current calendar year. This nameplate has been inspired from the bird of prey found in parts of South Africa. The carmaker has emphasised on the Osprey’s five-star Global NCAP (GNCAP) rating. Features include a 10.25-inch floating infotainment screen, 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster, capacitive AC controls, 360° camera, TPMS, voice commands, electric sunroof, front-seat ventilation, and a 382-litre boot.
The Osprey’s engine options are not currently known. However, the India-spec car, the Nexon, gets a 1.2-litre turbo-petrol (6MT/7DCT) unit that churns out 118bhp/170Nm. The turbo-CNG (6MT) churns out 99bhp/170Nm, and the diesel (6MT/6AMT) delivers 113bhp/260Nm. We expect the turbo-petrol option to be the dominant powertrain in South Africa.
