Tennessee incoming freshman golfer Tyler Watts was selected to compete for Team USA at the 2026 Walker Cup.
He will be the fourth Vols‘ golfer to compete in the event, joining Mike Sposa (1991), Chris Paisley (2009) and Caleb Surratt (2023). Watts will be the first Tennessee player to compete as a freshman.
He earned his spot on Team USA through an automatic exemption granted to the three highest ranked American golfers in the WAGR on July 8, previously outlined by the USGA.
As of July 8, Watts is ranked second among Americans on the WAGR. A victory in the in the Northeast Amateur in June contributed to moving up in rankings. He finished 16-under to become the youngest champion in the event.
The Walker Cup is a two-day golf match played between 10-men teams from the United States, Great Britain and Ireland. Each day includes four foursome matches in the morning, followed by a series of singles matches in the afternoon.
The 2026 Walker Cup, which is the 51st in the event’s history, is scheduled for Sept. 5-6. Team USA will play Great Britain and Ireland at Lahinch Golf Club in the Republic of Ireland.
