Foreign nationals are departing South Africa in large numbers, anticipating anti-immigrant protests scheduled for tomorrow, Tuesday, June 30, even though the government has emphasized that this date is not an official cutoff. President Cyril Ramaphosa recognized public worries regarding illegal immigration, but he cautioned that only the government possesses the authority to enforce immigration statutes, as neighboring nations expedite efforts to bring their citizens home due to fears of potential unrest.

General Muhoozi Kainerugaba, Uganda’s military chief, mandated the shutdown of the Daily Monitor, NTV Uganda, and additional Nation Media Group outlets yesterday, Sunday, June 28, stating that all media entities are required to “follow the rules.” This action follows just days after President Yoweri Museveni commenced his seventh term, occurring as Kainerugaba—Museveni’s son, widely perceived as the nation’s de facto leader and probable successor—persists in consolidating his power.

Nigeria has formally entered the competition alongside South Africa and Rwanda to host Formula 1’s inaugural African race since 1993, proposing a Grand Prix event in Abuja. This bid represents Africa’s most significant effort in decades to rejoin the Formula 1 calendar, with various nations vying to highlight their infrastructure, tourism prospects, and commercial attractiveness.
