US Ambassador Tilman J. Fertitta in Ravenna: visiting UNESCO mosaics and holding official talks
On 16 July 2026 Ravenna welcomed the city stop of the “Freedom 250 Coastal Diplomacy Italy Tour” led by US Ambassador to Italy and San Marino Tilman J. Fertitta. The visit combined cultural heritage appreciation with institutional meetings and engagement with the local economic community.
Accompanied by Mayor Alessandro Barattoni, Prefect Raffaele Ricciardi and Archbishop Lorenzo Ghizzoni, the ambassador toured the historic centre and visited two of Ravenna’s landmarks: the Basilica of San Vitale and the Mausoleum of Galla Placidia, taking time to admire the mosaics inscribed on the UNESCO <a href="https://absafricatv.com/mount-olympus-considered-for-world-heritage-status/” title=”Mount Olympus considered for World Heritage status”>World Heritage List.
The delegation also visited the municipal building and the council chamber, where the presence of Allied flags recalling Ravenna’s World War II liberation was noted. The mayor presented the ambassador with a volume on Ravenna’s mosaics as a commemorative gift.
Day’s closing: institutional dinner at Porto Corsini
The day concluded aboard the megayacht Boardwalk, moored at the Porto Corsini cruise terminal, with an institutional dinner attended by civil, military and business leaders. During the press briefing, Ambassador Fertitta explained the tour’s aims of strengthening economic and cultural ties between the United States and Italy.

- accommodates up to 22 guests in 11 luxury cabins with a dedicated crew;

Funded personally by the ambassador, the voyage crosses 13 Italian regions to mark the 250th anniversary of the US Declaration of Independence and to promote commercial and cultural cooperation. Prior stops included several coastal cities, and the tour will continue with further ports of call along the Italian coastline.
