The U.S. women’s national team faces world champion Spain on Saturday, Oct. 10 in the first of back-to-back friendlies.
With the 2027 World Cup now only nine months away, the two matches will be a chance for the USWNT to measure itself against the tournament’s reigning champion.
“To be able to get these two games on the East Coast will be the perfect tests before we head into World Cup qualifying at the end of the year,” USWNT head coach Emma Hayes said when the matches were announced.
Hayes named a 26-player roster for the two matches, with two players from the original squad – Naomi Girma and Sam Coffey – already forced to withdraw due to injuries.
But the U.S. will also have plenty of big names to call on, including the entire “Triple Espresso” front line of Trinity Rodman, Sophia Wilson and Mallory Swanson.
The USWNT and Spain have faced off four times before, with the U.S. winning three of those meetings. Spain won the most recent match, however, defeating the USWNT 2-0 in October 2022.
Saturday’s match will be played at Audi Field in Washington, D.C., followed by the second game on Tuesday, Oct. 13 at Subaru Park in Chester, Pennsylvania.
