The complete WAFCON 2026 schedule in East Africa Time is out, with Harambee Starlets set to begin their long-awaited return to the continental stage
The 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) is set to kick off in Morocco, which will host the continent’s premier women’s football tournament for the third consecutive time.
This edition follows just one year after the delayed 2024 finals, where Nigeria clinched a record-extending 10th title.
Originally slated for March, the tournament was postponed by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) just 12 days before its scheduled start, with the governing body citing “unforeseen circumstances.”
The competition now begins on Sunday, July 26, with Algeria taking on Senegal in the opening match in Rabat. The newly expanded 16-team format will feature 34 matches, culminating in the final on Sunday, 16 August.

This year’s Wafcon carries added significance as it serves as the qualifier for the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup in Brazil. The four semi-finalists will automatically secure their spots, while the four losing quarter-finalists will enter a play-off for two places at an intercontinental qualifier.
WAFCON 2026: Tournament Format and Groups
The 16 participating nations have been drawn into four groups of four. Host nation Morocco is in Group A and will face a North African derby against rivals Algeria.
