The 2026 World Cup final is tomorrow.
Argentina’s pursuit of becoming the third back-to-back World Cup champion of all time and the first since 1962 comes to a head on Sunday, when it faces Spain in the final.
The field began with 46 teams and it’s dwindled down to the final two: The reigning World Cup champions (Argentina) and the reigning European champions (Spain).
La Roja has flown under the radar throughout most of the tournament. It opened the World Cup with a shocking 0-0 draw against the tournament’s Cinderella team, Cape Verde. Spain still managed to top its group and has conceded just one goal across its seven matches. They cruised by France in the semifinals and the Euro 2024 winners have their sights set on Lionel Messi and Co.
Meanwhile, the defending champs under Lionel Scaloni will be hoping to send off one of the greatest athletes of all time with an emphatic victory in New Jersey on Sunday.

It’s been a magical run for the 39-year-old Messi and La Albiceleste. Can they join Italy (1934, 1938) and Brazil (1958, 1962) as the only countries to win back-to-back World Cup titles?
