Woman lands Google job on her 13th attempt, shares tips to crack Big Tech hiring.

A 27-year-old software engineer working at Amazon has gone viral after revealing how persistence helped him land a job at Google, only after facing 12 rejections from the tech giant. His candid post has struck a chord with job seekers aiming for roles at some of the world’s biggest technology companies.

In a post on X, software engineer Soumyadeep Paul shared that his breakthrough came on his 13th application to Google. “I got into Google after getting rejected 12 times. 13th time was the charm.” Paul added that Google was not the only company where repeated attempts eventually paid off. According to him, Amazon hired him after three rejections, while Microsoft extended an offer only after he had been turned down 16 times. He also revealed that he never received a callback fromApple or Oracle.

Using his own experience, Paul argued that applying to top technology companies is largely a “numbers game.” He advised candidates to keep applying consistently, seek employee referrals whenever possible, and continue improving their skills instead of getting discouraged by rejection.

The Amazon engineer also cautioned against sending applications blindly. He suggested that candidates should carefully match their resumes with the job requirements before applying. If they know someone inside the company, they should ask for the recruiter’s email address and send a direct email with the job ID and resume after submitting the application.

Techie recommends reaching out to HRs

Paul further recommended reaching out to hiring managers on LinkedIn, saying that while he had not personally used the strategy, he had seen it help others secure opportunities.

The post sparked a debate online, with one user arguing that success at top technology firms is influenced not just by persistence but also by a candidate’s background.

“It’s not a numbers game. Companies often look for big names on your resume. Freshers usually need achievements like ICPC or a Tier-1 college, while experienced candidates often need brands like Amazon or Microsoft on their resumes. That’s just my opinion and I could be wrong,” the user commented.
