from ARNOLD MULENGA in Lusaka, Zambia

    Zambia Bureau
LUSAKA, (CAJ News)– ZAMBIA aims to ramp up investment in infrastructure to strengthen Livingstone as the country’s tourism capital.

This is aimed at creating jobs and stimulating economic growth in the southern border town bordering Zimbabwe.

President Hakainde Hichilema was addressing residents at a rally.

He said tourism remained one of the key sectors that will drive Zambia’s economic transformation, with the government committed to investing in infrastructure to support the industry’s expansion.

A contractor has already been engaged for the Katima Mulilo–Kazungula Road project.

Hichilema said to improve energy security, the government would establish additional solar power plants in Livingstone to strengthen electricity supply and support the city’s vision of becoming a 24-hour <a href="https://absafricatv9491.live-website.com/indian-economy-resilient-despite-global-uncertainties/” title=”Indian economy resilient despite global uncertainties”>economy.

“All these infrastructure projects that the UPND government has planned for Livingstone will create employment opportunities for our people and accelerate development,” Hichilema said.

UPND is the ruling United Party for National Development, seeking a second term at the August 13 election.

Hichilema announced the government would rehabilitate township roads across Livingstone to improve connectivity and support tourism and commerce.

Livingstone relies heavily on travel, hospitality and cross-border trade near Victoria Falls.

It continues to navigate historical industrial shifts and local development hurdles.
