Fourteen people have died and six others injured in two separate crashes in Limpopo’s Sekhukhune district on Saturday night.
According to the provincial transport department, five people were killed in a crash involving two vehicles on the R55 near Stoffberg, while nine others died in a second crash on the Phokwane-Mamphogo road.
The injured were taken to nearby <a href="https://absafricatv.com/ntsiki-mazwais-hospital-queue-comments-divide-south-africans/" title="Ntsiki Mazwai's hospital queue comments divide <a href="https://absafricatv.com/south-africa-v-wales-two-memorable-moments-worlds-apart/" title="South Africa v Wales: Two memorable moments; worlds apart”>South Africans”>hospitals for treatment.
The department’s Tshifhiwa Dali says preliminary investigations suggest reckless and negligent driving, as well as possible speeding, as the cause of the accidents.
“The death cloud is hanging over the Sekhukhune district. Condolences to the families of those who lost their lives. The department asked drivers to be extra careful, avoid reckless driving and take a rest after every two hours. Traffic officers will be employed to keep monitoring hot spots. After meeting with the district municipalities and the local municipalities, the public will be duly informed of the latest developments.”
