    Nairobi, 17 July, 2026 / 11:55 pm (ACI Africa).

The Vice President of theAssociation of Member Episcopal Conferences in Eastern Africa(AMECEA) has encouraged the Bishops within the region to continue supporting renewable energy efforts ahead of their forthcoming 21st Plenary Assembly.

In his address at the workshop that theLaudato Si’ Movement Africa(LSM) organized in collaboration with AMECEA ahead of the July 19–26 Plenary Assembly, ArchbishopThomas Luke Msusasaid that by promoting renewable energy, the Bishops would also protect the poor and the vulnerable.

“I would like to encourage AMECEA to continue advocating for climate justice by supporting international efforts that promote a just and equitable transition away from dependence on fossil fuels while protecting the poor and the vulnerable,” Archbishop Msusa said in his address at the one-day workshop that was held on Friday, July 17, atRoussel Houseof Donum Dei Missionary Sisters in Karen, Nairobi.

The Archbishop of Malawi’sCatholic Archdiocese of Blantyreexplained that such advocacy is strengthened by the2025 Advisory Committee of the International Court of Justice, which he said “reaffirms that nations have responsibilities to prevent serious harm to the climate system.”

Organised on the theme, “Ethical investment, fossil fuel divestment, and faith-consistent finance for Catholic leaders in Eastern Africa,” the workshop brought together Bishops, diocesan justice and peace committees, Catholic development agencies, and religious congregations with significant investment portfolios.
