Onome Omolola Didih did not fail to impress when she commanded complete control of the Women’s 53kg Weightlifting competition at Day 3 of the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, July 27 2026

Onome Omolola Didih led from the front on Monday when she stamped her dominance in the snatch when she lifted 93kg, five kilograms more than her competitors – leading her to take yet another gold for the Nigerian’s who have been steamrolling the Weightlifting and Para Powerlifting categories.

She and Gyaneshwari Yadav pushed each other in the clean and jerk, but the Indian lifter could not reign in the Nigerian, leading to silver for her home nation. Canada’s Rebeka Groulx completed the podium line-up with bronze.

In total, Onome Omolola Didih broke three records on the day:

    • 206kg in Women’s 53kg Total
    • 113kg in Women’s 53kg Clean & Jerk
    • 93kg in Women’s 53kg Snatch

Didih’s performance set Commonwealth and Games records, which sent the Nigerian delegation in the crowd into rapturous applause. “I’m very happy and very excited because these are my first Games ever, my first Commonwealths,” Didih said.

“We have prepared really well for these Commonwealths. We came for a training tour, so we would be prepared for the weather and conditions.”
