South Africa Women will tour Zimbabwe for the first time, with the two sides preparing to lock horns in their maiden T20I series.

The visitors will be led by regular captain Laura Wolvaardt but will feature a bunch of new faces, including three uncapped players.

These are seamer Caitlin Wyngaard, who impressed for the SA Emerging Women during the recent tour against Bangladesh Emerging. The 21-year-old has earned her maiden national call-up alongside former SA U19 Women starlet Nthabiseng Nini and off-spinner Luyanda Nzuza, who also delivered standout performances for the Emerging side.

The uncapped trio will be joined by Faye Tunnicliffe, Anneke Bosch, Ayanda Hlubi, Eliz-Mari Marx, Seshnie Naidu, Nondumiso Shangase and Miané Smit – all of whom missed out on the recent ICC Women’s T20 World Cup in England.

Bolstering the line-up further are wicket-keeper batters Sinalo Jafta and Karabo Meso, as well as all-rounders Kayla Reyneke and Annerie Dercksen.

Marizanne Kapp, Dané van Niekerk, Suné Luus, Nonkululeko Mlaba, Tazmin Brits, Chloe Tryon, Nadine de Klerk, Ayabonga Khaka and Shabnim Ismail are among the experienced players that will miss the tour and South Africa coach Mandla Mashimbyi is excited to see what the next batch of stars can provide to the Proteas as they build towards the next edition of the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup.

“There’s nothing I’ll be doing now without the 2029 (ODI) World Cup in mind,” Mashimbyi said.

“We have to expose these players as much as possible to international cricket when the opportunities present themselves, to see whether they’ve got the capability to thrive at that level. We can’t do that if we don’t give them the chance to play.”

The five-game T20I series will be played between 11-19 September at Queen’s Sports Club in Bulawayo.
