Moises Henriques kept his dream of getting Portugal to the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2028 alive, as his side overcame Spain to win the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup Europe Sub Regional Qualifier C, 2026 Final.
Now Portugal will feature in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup Europe Qualifier in 2027, and have an opportunity to make it to the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup Global Qualifier.

Spain’s Christian Munoz-Mills won the toss and elected to field first. Portugal’s batting had a steady start with Dhavalkumar Norotam (23) and Christopher De Freitas (39) got steady starts but couldn’t quite get going.
Former Australia international and Portuguese captain Moises Henriques (18) also got through to a start but couldn’t settle and score a big one. Craig Cachopa (25 off 21), Carlos Nunes (15 off nine) and Jeremy Martins (18* off eight) provided the late impetus to get Portugal to 160/6.
Spain’s best performers were Yasir Ali (2/24) and Lorne Burns (2/29).

In response, Sebastian de Oliviera provided Portugal the perfect start, with Jeremy Martins also chipping in to account for Spain’s first three wickets for a score of merely 32. Yasir and Daniel Doyle Calle settled in thereafter and got the Spanish response going.
Siraj Ullah Khadem brought about a twist in the chase by cleaning up Yasir for 29 in the 11th over of the chase.

With the pitch not so easy to get in for the newer batters, Portugal had the upper hand.
Khadem finished with (2/19) and was supported by Edward Fleming (3/13) who hastened the demise of the Spanish chase. A promising chase became a formality as Portugal closed in on a crucial win.
Martins bowled Lorne Burns to secure a 57-run win for Portugal.
The victors have now qualified for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup Europe Qualifier in 2027. They join Jersey, who secured the first qualification place after winning Sub-Regional Qualifier A in Cyprus, as well as Denmark, who claimed the second spot by winning Sub-Regional Qualifier B on home soil.
Scotland enter the tournament directly in recognition of the exceptional circumstances surrounding their participation in the 2026 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup.
Italy and the Netherlands, the remaining European sides who have not already secured qualification to the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2028, advance directly to the Global Qualifier.
