Another blow for Australia!
That’s all we have for you from here! Hope you enjoyed our coverage of today’s game. Do join us back on Wednesday for the third and final ODI as Australia look to bounce back and South Africa aim for a clean sweep. Until then, it’s goodbye from all of us here. Take care and goodbye!
Temba Bavuma: [On the team’s performance] Overall good team performance. Started with a bad pitch, tricky up front, but we managed to handle that challenge and then got ourselves to that total. Unbelievable innings by David Miller, and then the bowlers as well, you know, they held their nerve. The first ten, we knew they were going to put us under pressure, but we understood a couple of wickets would put them on the back foot. So yeah, again another overall team performance. [How do you sum up your own performance and your own form with the bat at the moment?] Well, it’s nice to contribute with the bat. I think I had much more of an opportunity coming in, I guess just after the first ball. I was able to take my time and build a partnership with Quinton and all the other guys. But yeah, always nice to contribute to the team’s cause. [How valuable was it to have the extra spinner in Aiden Markram as well?] Very valuable. Obviously him turning the ball away from the left-handers, the conditions as well, also offered a lot more spin than we expected with him and all the other spinners. And I think, yeah, I think the way the spin has complemented our bowling attack, we obviously always have the fast bowlers. Today probably not the guys who bowled in excess of 145, but we were able to lean on our guile of the spinners. [A word on the crowd today at Pink Day?] Yeah, fantastic. I think the guys were talking about the chanting, all the cheers that everyone was getting. Like I said earlier, it’s always a calendar that we look forward to, this game, playing for a good cause. And I think, yeah, we seem to play quite decently with the pink clothing as well.
Mitchell Marsh: Yeah, look, really disappointing. You know, we came here, the attitude of making sure it was 1-1 today going into that final game. Yeah, fair play to South Africa, I thought they played really well, outplayed us again. [Talk to us about batting in particular, the phase from overs 30 to 40] Yeah, look, it’s certainly an area for improvement. We’re well aware of that. You know, I thought in both games the way we’ve set up our innings has been really good, and we just haven’t been able to execute in those middle phases, which is a great learning curve for some of our young guys especially. And, you know, in these moments, you’ve got to give full credit to South Africa for the way they bowled throughout those periods. [Talking on the positives] Yeah, look, they’re good young players. I thought the way we fought, particularly when Nathan Ellis went down, it would have been a handy six overs towards the back end and probably shrunk that total down. You never know, but I thought the way that some of our young guys have performed, and you see glimpses of this, it makes the future bright. But ultimately we have been outplayed, and we understand that. [What would you like to see from the last ODI?] Keep improving. You know, we don’t want to be whitewashed. So yeah, go there and obviously try and win that game and play some good cricket.

David Miller | PoTM: [Your highest score in ODIs, how was that for you?] Yeah, it was a great feeling. Yeah, 142, very stoked. It was against Australia as well, so nice to tick that one over. [Seems you love playing against Australia, don’t you?] They’re so competitive. They’re always at you. You know, they bring out the best in the guys and, you know, they’re world-class players, and it’s good to compete against the best in the world. So, yeah, it was a great day out and just very tough to get over the line and obviously put in a big shift for the team. [Talk to us about the conditions and also batting with Temba as well] Yeah, it was great. Temba’s, you know, he’s so solid there and he’s done really well, and an incredible knock from him. And we just tried to ride the wave. It was a little bit stopy and a bit slow going, so just try to kind of play and get into good positions, keep feeding each other with strike, and then move into sort of second, third, fourth gear and try and take it deep. So it was one of those, but one-day cricket’s so long, so you’ve got a lot of time, and it’s really cool to have a good partnership with him. [Having your mom’s name on your shirt. Obviously not the journey you might have wanted, but a special day today] Yeah, for sure. You know, she’s been through a lot in the last couple of years, and it’s just a great initiative and really nice to have a personal kind of touch on each shirt. So, yeah, nice to represent my mom and everything she’s been through, and obviously to top it off with a win and MOM, I don’t think it gets better.
18:07 Local Time, 16:07 GMT, 21:37 IST: A convincing win for the Proteas in the end as they seal the series with a match to spare! Having posted a daunting 365 after being sent in to bat, South Africa faced early heat as Australia started with a bang, Mitchell Marsh and Travis Head taking on the seamers and clearing the ropes with ease. But full credit to the Proteas’ slow bowlers, who completely turned the tide. South Africa sent down 30 overs of spin, with Aiden Markram bowling his full allotment of 10 overs to starve the Aussies of momentum. Xavier Bartlett delayed the inevitable with a valiant half-century late in the innings, but lacked support at the other end as the chase faded. Stay tuned for the post-match presentation coming up next!
