Award-winning South African music pioneer Kabza De Small has taken a monumental step in his sonic evolution with the official launch of Tech Hub, a new record label exclusively dedicated to the rapidly expanding Afrotech genre. The announcement signals a strategic pivot for the producer, widely revered as the “King of Amapiano,” as he seeks to dominate the future of African electronic music.

The label’s inaugural signing is the critically acclaimed producer and DJ JNR SA, who was officially unveiled during an intimate launch event in Sandton on July 9. Having collaborated intimately with Kabza De Small on shaping Afrotech records and transitioning his live DJ sets toward the genre, JNR SA represents the precise creative direction the new imprint intends to pursue.

Bridging the Gap Between Amapiano and Afrotech

Kabza De Small’s transition into Afrotech is not a departure from his roots, but rather an expansion of his immense influence over the continent’s dance floors. While Amapiano is characterised by its distinctive log drums and soulful chords, Afrotech introduces a darker, more percussive, and highly synthesized electronic landscape that appeals to both underground club purists and global festival audiences.

“Tech Hub is about creating space for innovation and showcasing the future of African electronic music,” Kabza De Small stated during the launch. By establishing a dedicated imprint, the producer is building a formal institutional structure to incubate talent that might otherwise be overshadowed in the saturated Amapiano market.

The choice of JNR SA as the flagship artist is highly deliberate. “JNR SA has been an important part of this journey from the beginning, and it is only fitting that he becomes the first artist to represent this vision,” Kabza De Small added. The mutual creative trust has culminated in a high-stakes debut project designed to immediately cement Tech Hub’s credibility in the industry.

Meet JNR SA: The Flagship Artist

To celebrate the launch of Tech Hub, JNR SA has announced his highly anticipated six-track extended play titled Dance To My Afro. The project, which officially releases on July 24, 2026, showcases the broad spectrum of Afro House and Afrotech music, intentionally blending traditional elements with experimental Three-Step rhythms.

The rollout began with a massive pre-order campaign featuring two heavy-hitting focus singles. The collaborative weight behind the project demonstrates Tech Hub’s industry leverage, pulling in some of the most respected vocalists and producers in the electronic scene.

    • Label Launch Date: July 9, 2026, at Zioux in Sandton.
    • Flagship Artist: JNR SA.
    • Debut EP:Dance To My Afro (Releasing July 24, 2026).
    • Focus Single 1: “Umgido” featuring Oscar Mbo.
    • Focus Single 2: “Ipatshazi” featuring Sun-El Musician and Section Five.

JNR SA noted that creating the EP involved an exhaustive selection process, whittling down hundreds of daily studio sessions into six cohesive records that perfectly encapsulate the diversity of the genre. Some tracks are engineered specifically for high-energy dance floors, while others cater to introspective, personal listening experiences.

Cross-Border Influence: The Kenyan and Nigerian Connection

The establishment of Tech Hub reverberates far beyond South Africa’s borders. In Nairobi, where Afrotech events routinely dominate the nightlife economy in Westlands and Kilimani, Kabza De Small’s latest venture guarantees a steady pipeline of premium electronic music for East African DJs. Kenyan promoters, who frequently book South African talent, view the formalisation of Afrotech as a lucrative opportunity for cross-cultural music festivals.

Similarly, the Nigerian market, currently experiencing a massive surge in the integration of electronic elements into Afrobeats, stands to be influenced by Tech Hub’s output. As global audiences increasingly demand hybrid sounds, the intersection of Lagos-style percussion and South African Afrotech engineering presents unprecedented collaborative opportunities for artists across the continent.
