Acting High Commissioner of Sri Lanka to Kenya, Ruvini De Silva met with President of the  Kenya National Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KNCCI), Dr. Erick Rutto to explore  opportunities for strengthening trade and investment cooperation between Sri Lanka and Kenya,  with a particular focus on promoting Sri Lanka Expo 2027, scheduled to be held in Colombo from  14–17 January 2027.

During the cordial discussions, both sides exchanged views on enhancing business-to-business  engagement and increasing trade between Sri Lanka and Kenya. Dr. Rutto highlighted several  sectors with strong potential for collaboration, including Ceylon Tea, gem and jewellery, tourism,  textiles and apparel, and rubber-based products, noting the significant opportunities these  industries offer for expanding bilateral commercial partnerships.

The meeting also explored the possibility of signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU)  between the Sri Lanka High Commission in Nairobi and the KNCCI to provide an institutional  framework for promoting trade, investment, business networking, and the exchange of commercial  information.

As a further demonstration of KNCCI’s commitment to strengthening economic ties with Sri  Lanka, Dr. Rutto invited Sri Lanka to participate in the Africa Commerce & Industry Summit  (ACIS 2026), to be held in October 2026. The Summit is expected to provide an ideal platform to  promote Sri Lanka Expo 2027 to African businesses, investors, and industry leaders, while  fostering new commercial partnerships across the continent.

The Acting High Commissioner welcomed the invitation and expressed appreciation for the  KNCCI’s support in promoting Sri Lanka as a preferred destination for trade, investment, and  tourism. She reaffirmed the High Commission’s commitment to working closely with the KNCCI  to facilitate greater engagement between the business communities of Sri Lanka and Kenya and to  encourage a strong Kenyan business delegation to participate in Sri Lanka Expo 2027.
