Countries may bid individually or jointly, with the continental body expected to assess each application against a comprehensive set of technical, financial and governance requirements
The announcement comes as East Africa prepares to stage the Africa Cup of Nations PAMOJA 2027, which will be co-hosted by Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania from Saturday, 19 June to Saturday, 17 July 2027
It will be the first time the region hosts Africa’s premier football tournament and the first joint AFCON to be staged by the three neighbouring nations

CAF’s latest move also introduces a revised competition calendar that will see a major senior men’s national team tournament held every year, except during FIFA World Cup years
Under the new schedule, AFCON will retain its place on the calendar while the African Nations Championship (CHAN) will be played in the intervening years, ensuring annual continental football competition
The new approach is expected to boost the commercial value of CAF competitions, increase exposure for African players and national teams, and provide Member Associations with more regular opportunities to compete at the highest level
