Chief Justice of India Surya Kant will hold bilateral meetings with senior judicial leaders from BRICS member states and partner <a href="https://absafricatv.com/new-mitsubishi-pajero-revealed-100-countries-not-europe/” title=”New Mitsubishi Pajero revealed: 100 countries, not Europe”>countries as India hosts the BRICS Chief Justices’ Forum in New Delhi from September 4 to 6.
The three-day forum, hosted by the Supreme Court of India, will bring together Chief Justices, Presidents of Supreme Courts and senior judicial representatives from BRICS countries and partner nations for discussions on contemporary challenges facing justice systems.
The forum is expected to provide a platform for judicial leaders to exchange views on justice delivery, international dispute resolution, technological developments and sustainable development.
CJI to meet judicial leaders from 10 countries
As part of the opening day’s programme on September 4, CJI Surya Kant is scheduled to hold bilateral meetings with heads of judicial delegations from Russia, China, Egypt, Indonesia, the United Arab Emirates, Belarus, Kazakhstan, South Africa, Iran and Uzbekistan.
Among those scheduled to meet the CJI are Igor Krasnov, Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of the Russian Federation; Zhang Jun, Chief Justice of China and President of the Supreme People’s Court; Boulos Gahmy Iskander Boulos, Chief Justice of Egypt’s Supreme Constitutional Court; and Sunarto, Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of Indonesia.
The other judicial leaders include Mohammed Hamad Al Badi Al Dhaheri, President of the UAE Federal Supreme Court; Andrei Shved, Chairman of the Supreme Court of Belarus; Aslambek Mergaliyev, Chairman of the Supreme Court of Kazakhstan; Mahube Betty Molemela, President of the Supreme Court of Appeal of South Africa; Ayatollah Gholam Hossein Mohseni-Eje’I, Chief Justice of Iran; and Malikakhon Kalandarova, Deputy Chairperson of the Supreme Court of Uzbekistan.
The bilateral engagements are intended to facilitate direct exchanges on matters of mutual judicial interest and strengthen institutional cooperation among participating judiciaries.
Judicial leaders to address forum
On the second day, heads of delegations will address the forum and present their perspectives on issues of common concern to judicial institutions.
Judicial representatives from Brazil, China, Egypt, Ethiopia, Indonesia, Iran, Russia, South Africa and the UAE are expected to participate, alongside partner countries including Belarus, Boli
The substantive discussions at the forum will centre on four major themes.
The first will examine mediation and international commercial disputes, with a focus on mediation as a strategic tool for resolving commercial disputes in an increasingly globalised economy.
The second session will focus on cross-border enforcement of arbitral awards, including challenges in enforcement and the scope for greater procedural harmonisation across jurisdictions.
Artificial intelligence and the judiciary will form the third key theme, with judicial leaders expected to discuss digital innovation, the use of AI and its implications for the future administration of justice.
The fourth theme, judicial leadership and sustainable development, will explore the judiciary’s role in ecological governance and promoting sustainable energy systems.
The Supreme Court said the forum is expected to deepen judicial dialogue, facilitate the exchange of experiences and strengthen cooperation among BRICS member states and partner countries on emerging legal and institutional challenges.
