Delhi Police has arrested two law students of Lucknow University in connection with a recent Supreme Court hearing during which a litigant – one of the arrested students – hurled abuses at judges in the courtroom.
The two students have been identified as 24-year-old Prabal Pratap Singh and 23-year-old Chander Bhan. They are third-year and second-year law students respectively at Lucknow University.
According to a <a href="https://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/india/cuss-remarks-against-cji-two-law-students-arrested-over-courtroom-disruption/articleshow/132404025.cms” rel=”nofollow noopener” target=”_blank”>statement released by the police, a case has been registered at Tilak Marg police station on a statement made by the security staff of the Supreme Court regarding the incident which took place on July 10 before a Bench of Justices KV Viswanathan and Alok Aradhe.
The<a href="https://www.ndtv.com/india-news/law-student-who-abused-chief-justice-threw-papers-in-court-arrested-11772818″ rel=”nofollow noopener” target=”_blank”>NDTV reported that following the incident, the accused were medically examined by doctors at IHBAS. They were declared mentally sound, the report said.
Several pamphlets containing objectionable language were recovered from the possession of the accused, it added. A court in Delhi has remanded the accused to two days of police remand, as per the report.

During the proceedings, accused Prabal Pratap, while appearing as a petitioner-in-person, disrupted the court proceedings by using abusive language and flinging his case files inside the courtroom.
He has been accused of obstructing discharge of the official duties of the staff who had attempted to restrain him.
Pertinently, the Court, in the order passed on July 10, had said that it would not like to take any action against Pratap.
Pratap had appeared before the top court challenging an April 2026 judgment of the Allahabad High Court.
At the very outset of the hearing, instead of advancing legal submissions, Pratap addressed the Bench in an unusual manner.
“Mr judicial servant, I order you to order the registration of an FIR against the Assistant Commissioner of Police of Lucknow,” he said.
Surprised by the remark, Justice Viswanathan responded, “You are ordering me? You are ordering us?”
Pratap then replied, “That is all from my side. Everything is on record.”
Moments later, the hearing descended into chaos. Pratap threw the case papers into the air and hurled abuses in open court, and while being escorted out by security personnel, also verbally abused the Chief Justice of India.
On the merits of the case, the Court had found no reason to interfere with the Allahabad High Court’s decision.
