Ethiopia and Nigeria to join forces for Africa’s development
Talks in Addis Ababa covered food, investment and travel
Ethiopia and Nigeria intend to use their economic clout and large populations to drive Africa’s development. This was stated by Ethiopian Deputy Prime Minister Temesgen Tiruneh following a meeting with Nigerian Vice-President Kashim Shettima in Addis Ababa a partner of TV BRICS
“Ethiopia and Nigeria are bound by a strategic partnership. When the two countries’ significant population and economic potential are mobilised in a coordinated manner, they further strengthen the capacity to shape Africa’s future positively,” he wrote on his social media account.
The parties discussed food security and the development of diplomatic relations. Ethiopia shared its experience of implementing the Seqota Declaration – an initiative to reduce stunting in children. The Deputy Prime Minister welcomed Nigeria’s decision to send a delegation to familiarise itself with the results of the initiative.
The meeting also touched upon the facilitation of travel between the two countries and mutual investment. Ethiopia had previously waived visa requirements for Nigerians holding diplomatic and service passports.
