The Gabonese Football Federation (FEGAFOOT) is close to appointing Sébastien Migné as the new head coach of the national team ahead of the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers, which are set to begin in September 2027. Migné recently stepped down as head coach of Haiti following the team’s elimination in the group stage of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Gabon have been without a head coach since the dismissal of Thierry Mouyouma following the team’s disappointing performance at the 2025 AFCON.
More than 450 coaches applied for the position, overwhelming FEGAFOOT with the number of applications. However, a dispute between the federation and the government delayed the appointment for several months. The Gabonese government usually covers the national team’s head coach’s monthly salary, leaving FEGAFOOT in a difficult position for more than seven months after the conclusion of the 2025 AFCON.
FEGAFOOT publicized a statement on Wednesday, saying that Migné had completed the last details with a press conference set on the same day to announce the appointment of he and his coaching staff.
The 53-year-old Frenchman left his role with Haiti a day ago and is expected to take over the Gabon job. The former professional player has extensive coaching experience in Africa, initially serving as an assistant to Claude Le Roy.
He took charge of his first national team, Congo, in 2017. Migné guided Kenya to qualification for the 2019 AFCON and later helped Haiti reach only their second FIFA World Cup finals in 2026.
