KANU Chairman Gideon Moi has called on Kenyans and political leaders to embrace peaceful competition, saying the country’s diversity should be used to strengthen unity rather than create divisions.

Moi said political differences are part of democracy but should not be allowed to damage relationships among communities. He urged leaders to focus on ideas, policies and development issues instead of using messages that could fuel tension.

The former Baringo Senator warned against political rhetoric that promotes hostility and division, saying leaders have a responsibility to protect peace and national cohesion.

Moi said Kenya’s different communities have coexisted for decades and that diversity remains one of the country’s greatest strengths. He encouraged citizens to respect each other’s political choices as the country prepares for the next General Election.

The KANU leader’s remarks come as political activity increases ahead of the 2027 polls, with parties and politicians beginning to position themselves for campaigns and possible alliances.

Moi has maintained a role in national politics through KANU, a party that dominated Kenya’s political landscape for many years after independence. He served as Baringo Senator from 2013 to 2022 before losing the seat in the 2022 General Election.

The former lawmaker has previously called for responsible leadership and peaceful engagement among political actors, emphasising the need for stability during election periods.

His latest remarks add to calls from various stakeholders urging politicians to avoid divisive politics and promote issue-based campaigns.

Moi said Kenya’s future depends on leaders and citizens working together despite political differences, urging the country to prioritise unity and peaceful coexistence.
