The Government of Ghana, in collaboration with the Gbeho and related families, has announced a state funeral in honour of the late Ambassador James Victor Gbeho in recognition of his outstanding service to Ghana and the international community.

According to a statement issued by the Presidency on Wednesday, July 29, the state burial will be held at the forecourt of the State House on Friday, July 31, 2026.

The Presidency described Ambassador Gbeho as one of Ghana’s most distinguished statesmen, whose diplomatic career saw him rise through the ranks of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

He served successively as Chief Director, Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs, and later Minister for Foreign Affairs.

Beyond his service to Ghana, Ambassador Gbeho also served as the United Nations Secretary-General’s Special Representative for Somalia and later as President of the ECOWAS Commission.

The government extended its deepest condolences to the Gbeho family and all those mourning the distinguished diplomat.
