    Karnataka continues overhaul of law officers representing it before High Court

    The Karnataka government has continued its overhaul of the panel of law officers representing it before the Karnataka High Court following a recent change in the State’s administration.

    According a July 17 notification, Advocates Surya Mukundaraj and Anoop Kumar have been appointed as Additional State Public Prosecutors (Additional SPPs) at the Principal Bench, in the place of BN Jagadeesh and Pushpalatha.

    Further, one Government Advocate, eight Additional Government Advocates (AGAs) and seven High Court Government Pleaders (HCGPs) have been appointed to represent the State before the Principal Bench of the Karnataka High Court in Bengaluru.

    Moreover, one HCGP each has been appointed for the Dharwad and Kalaburagi Benches of the High Court.

    The appointments have been made under Rule 23 of the Karnataka Law Officers (Appointments and Conditions of Service) Rules, 1977. The notification states that the appointments will remain in force for one year or until further orders, whichever is earlier.

    Earlier, on June 12, the State had appointed two State Public Prosecutors (SPPs), two Additional State Public Prosecutors (ASPPs), among other law officers.

    Subsequently, on June 16, the government appointed 42 Additional Government Advocates (AGAs) and 27 High Court Government Pleaders (HCGPs) for the Principal Bench of the Karnataka High Court.
