    Team Nigeria maintained fifth place on the medal table after Day Five of the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, taking its total medal haul to 12.

    The Nigerian contingent has now won six gold, four silver and two bronze medals, remaining among the top-performing nations at the Games and the highest-ranked African country on the standings.

    Australia continues to dominate the competition with 80 medals, comprising 35 gold, 18 silver and 27 bronze. Canada sits second with 35 medals (13 gold, 10 silver and 12 bronze), while England occupies third place with 43 medals, including 10 gold, 18 silver and 15 bronze.

    Hosts Scotland are fourth with 15 medals, made up of seven gold, four silver and four bronze, just ahead of Nigeria.

    Malaysia completes the top six with 10 medals (five gold, two silver and three bronze), while South Africa is seventh with 16 medals, including four gold, seven silver and five bronze. New Zealand, India and Jamaica round out the top 10.

    Nigeria added its latest medals on Tuesday through athletics. Kayinsola Ajayi claimed bronze in the men’s 100m, becoming the first Nigerian man to win a Commonwealth Games medal in the event since Olusoji Fasuba’s silver in 2006. Temitope Adeshina also secured bronze in the women’s high jump after clearing 1.90m.
