One less rival for Samsung to worry about.

The smartphone industry is going through a challenging period, as memory chip prices have skyrocketed due to the ongoing AI boom and limited chip supply. However, Samsung may have some good news, as one of its fiercest rivals, OnePlus, is reportedly preparing to exit major markets such as Europe and the US.

According to a report from WinFuture, OnePlus is gearing up for a withdrawal from Europe and the US. An official statement from the Chinese smartphone brand is expected within the next few days. If you aren’t already aware, OnePlus and Realme are owned by OPPO, and the parent company has reportedly decided to fully absorb its subsidiaries while continuing the brands as individual product lines within its own smartphone lineup.

Earlier this year, a report claimed that OnePlus was winding down operations in most countries, but the company denied those claims. Now, it appears that report may have been accurate. OnePlus has already started selling OPPO products through its website. OPPO has also reportedly decided to discontinue OxygenOS, which currently ships on OnePlus phones, and replace it with its own ColorOS software.

OnePlus will reportedly continue operating in China and India, which are among its largest markets. However, it appears the brand could stop operating in most other countries. If that happens, Samsung would face one less major competitor in those markets.
