Senegalese vegetable seed distributor Sodisem and its Dutch partner Bejo Zaden B.V. are set to further intensify their collaboration by bringing their joint activities under a new company name: Bejo Sodisem

The partnership builds on the strong local <a href="https://absafricatv.com/observer-research-foundation/” title=”OBSERVER RESEARCH FOUNDATION”>foundation that Sodisem has established in recent years and the expertise and vegetable varieties provided by Bejo. The management team remains unchanged and fully committed to supporting growers, partners and customers in the West African region

“Thanks to this partnership, we can grow faster and invest more in the development of high-quality varieties to support our growers. This will enable us to make a greater impact on food security in West Africa, without losing sight of our local identity and working methods,” says Alassane Ndiaye, director of Bejo Sodisem

The partnership combines in-depth knowledge of the local market in Senegal and West Africa with international expertise in vegetable breeding, innovation and knowledge transfer. The shared ambition is to contribute to a sustainable and resilient horticultural sector in Senegal and West Africa by strengthening local production capacity, reducing dependence on imports, and supporting food security, economic development and employment

“We strongly believe in the power of local entrepreneurship. Our role is to support and strengthen, not to replace. Bejo Sodisem’s success is built precisely on local knowledge and trust; that will always remain the foundation,” says John Pieter Schipper, CEO of Bejo

Bejo Sodisem employes 15 people and is based in Thies, with a branch in St. Louis, and a trial station at Mont Rolland nearby Thies. In addition to a commercial team supported by the head office, Bejo Sodisem also has a research team dedicated to breeding varieties specifically for the region and investigating cultivation methods that help growers improve their yields and quality. The results are shared with growers and partners through training sessions, seminars and social media
