The state’s star witness in the case against former National Assembly Speaker Nosiviwe Mapisa-Nqakula has been pressed to give further details about a reference to a wig as an alleged code for a bribe.

Mapisa-Nqakula is on trial for allegedly soliciting R4.5 million from Nombasa Ntsondwa-Ndhlovu, a <a href="https://absafricatv9491.live-website.com/trt-afrika-south-african-army-chief-visits-moscow-agrees-to-strengthen-military-ties/” title=”TRT Afrika – South African army chief visits Moscow, agrees to strengthen military ties”>South African National Defence Force (SANDF) contractor.

Ntsondwa-Ndhlovu, who turned state witness, is under cross-examination and has been asked to explain her allegations against Mapisa-Nqakula, who was Defence Minister at the time of the alleged crimes.

One of the incidents that Ntsondwa-Ndhlovu testified on is how Mapisa-Nqakula requested a wig from her in November 2018, which she knew was code for a bribe.

She said she delivered R300,000 in cash at the OR Tambo International Airport in February 2019, but she said she put an actual wig over the money, which was stashed in a silk bag.

The former minister’s lawyers have pointed out details in the WhatsApp conversation about the wig, asking what colour four meant and what she meant about delivering in seven days.

Ntsondwa-Ndhlovu said those details had no meaning.

Mapisa-Nqakula insists the WhatsApp texts were about a literal wig and that is all she received form Ntsondwa-Ndhlovu.
