Xavi has been absent from management since his departure from Barcelona two years ago, and he is now considering a return to the dugout, this time on the international stage.
Xavi has expressed interest in exploring international management opportunities, two years after parting ways with Barcelona, where he had a notable stint as the team’s manager.
During his time at Barcelona, Xavi spent nearly three seasons at the helm before being relieved of his duties in May 2024, following a series of defeats and a season without any major trophies, despite having previously led the team to the LaLiga title in 2022-23 and the Supercopa de Espana.
The former midfielder, who had a successful playing career, including winning the World Cup with Spain, also had a managerial stint with Qatar’s Al-Sadd, where he won seven trophies, but he believes that managing a national team would be a better fit for him at this point in his career than taking on another club role.
“My next step could be a national team. I’ll say it openly: this could be a good fit for me,” he told RNE, adding that his personal life is a significant factor in his decision, “I have family. A club wouldn’t allow me as much time with my family; I’ve got young children.” He also expressed his desire to participate in major international tournaments, “I’m keen to take part as a coach in a World Cup, Euros, AFCON, or the Asian Cup.”
Xavi’s managerial record with Barcelona includes 143 matches, with 90 wins, 24 draws, and 29 losses, resulting in a win rate of 62.9% when he left the club.
